card 4 DIORITE

Picture 1 shows a hand sample of diorite. The predominant minerals of diorite include sodium-rich plagioclase feldspar (light-colored) and amphibole (dark-colored). These minerals give diorite its characteristic salt-and-pepper appearance. Quartz and biotite mica are also possible constituent minerals.
